A creature in Ark has a Mate Boost when it is in close proximity to at least one creature of the same species--and opposite genders. Both creatures are awarded the mate boost and will receive an attack bonus of 1/3. Mates will defend another.
A pink heart will appear above all creatures receiving a mate boost.
Female Mate-Boosted creatures are twice as likely to lay eggs.
Players need to remain weary while confronting Wild Mate-Boosted creatures. They will be more dangerous then either (2 males or 2 females--depending on the gender) compared with their same species and level.
Domesticated animals retain the same benefits as their wild counterparts. When developing hunting and warring parties, it would be wise to incorporate creatures with mates.
